The detailed design and planning of the project needs to be done properly from the beginning; this will allow the client to mitigate claims such as idle and stand-by costs.

In the early stages of the project, the actual scope of work, the dredging method, the type of dredging equipment and the estimated budget needs to be properly determined.

In addition to the challenges of soil behaviour, water depth, waves, currents and weather conditions; relatively simple projects can become complex and very expensive for the client if it is not designed and planned appropriately. In this context, stand by rates for dredging equipment can range from €40,000 - €275,000 per day depending on the type, size, and capacity.

If the design and planning of a project is done properly at an early stage; it will allow the client to mitigate claims such as idle and stand-by costs during operations.

During the design and planning stage, JP Jol International in collaboration with the client will determine in detail the project budget and estimates to allow the client to make the right strategic decisions to execute the project on charter/day rates, lump sum or for unit rates.

As there are a limited number of Dredging Contractors worldwide, inside knowledge of the industry and tender strategy including timing will be crucial to successfully tender and complete a project.
